Slacker x1000

April 3, 2008

Wellllll, it would seem that I’ve given up on this enterprise altogether. But I think I’d like to at least post periodically, at least randomly when I feel like it. Some commitment, huh? I’ve read a ton this year, and I’ve been using goodreads to document that, but it’s really easier and more fun to do it here. I could always post the same comments I make here on goodreads so other readers can see them…

Blame me for the rocks and baby bones
And broken lock on our
Garden

Garden wall of eden
Full of spiderbites and all your lovers
We were

We were born to fuck each other
One way or another

Evening on the Ground (Lilith’s Song) by Iron & Wine

Let’s do it once, and again because EotG says so.

Well, I’m not doing very well at this.

December 3, 2007

I’ve been writing a fair amount in a journal, so my need for this is moderated a bit. And I can obviously be more personal in a journal. I’m curious if I will actually re-start posting here. When I first started blogging about two years ago, I figured I’d give it up almost immediately, but I didn’t. So, we’ll see…

When I lay down to sleep, I feel the world spin
Slightly off axis, it’s shaped like a fig
And when I lie next to you, I shiver and shake
You tell me you love me, I dream I’m awake

Let’s do it once…

some of my plastic still say kane

June 29, 2006

I have Kanye West lyrics on the brain:

I’m Kan, the Louis Vuitton Don
Bought my mom a purse now she Louis Vuitton Mom
Still might throw on a little low arm they want me to stop go on go on
They don’t want me to shop and me spending that hard
Oh my God is that a black card?
I turned around and replied why yes,
But I prefer the term African American Express

Last Call by Kanye West

Yeah, you know what this is
It’s a celebration, bitches!
Grab a drink, grab a glass
After that, I grab yo ass

theme from the top

June 28, 2006

Pleasantly, this is the my first meta post in a while. I’ve been futzing with different themes. I think it’s time for a change, but I’m not sure what I’m comfortable with yet. Mainly, I’d like to use a theme that uses more of the screen and maybe is a bit more flexible than WordPress Classic, which I am currently using.

It’s also really time for a link update. Soon, I guess. Once I’m done with my job, it seems more realistic.

Pantomime mixtures of heaven and earth
Jumbled events that have less than no worth
Time in the forest to dig under rocks
Or float in the ocean asleep in a box

and the Southern Cross

June 22, 2006

my lyric-quoting obsession continues:

So we cheated and we lied and we tested
And we never failed to fail, it was the easiest thing to do.
You will survive being bested.
Somebody fine will come along,
Make me forget about loving you.

Southern Cross by Crosby, Stills, & Nash

This is one of my favorite songs and favorite stanzas of all time, and it was awesome when CSNY played it when I saw them at the Oakland Arena a few years back (with my mom and cousin, no less). I also liked it when Jimmy Buffet played this song when I saw him (unfortunately) at the Shark Tank.

unsung

Please stay I wanna hear you play
The small time blues
That’s all we’ve got tonight
You and me, we’re bound by harmony
This wild desire is fed by reaching higher
And we’re still reaching higher
With them small time blues

Small Time Blues by Pete Droge

When I read to you baby from the book that you wrote
I got a choked up feeling in the back of my throat
Was it a love sick virus or the knot in my noose
You say your backpack’s heavy, bitch set the bricks loose.

So I Am Over You by Pete Droge

If you’re a fan of Tom Petty and mid-70s non-country Dylan, I highly recommend Pete Droge. He’s gotten some pub over the years because his song If You Don’t Love Me (I’ll Kill Myself) was in the movie Dumb and Dumber, the above-quoted song, Small Time Blues, was in the movie Almost Famous, and he was in a band with Matthew Sweet and Shawn Mullins called The Thorns. Unfortunately, Pete doesn’t really tour, but I recommend his records.

freaker, right by the speaker

Her mental clearance is high
But the overpass is low
She ducks her head and holds on tight
When she gets through she lets go

Freaker by the Speaker by Keller Williams

I haven’t been to a show in sooooooooooooo long.

or the one

June 20, 2006

So, according to the New York Times, here’s some of the stuff going on in the reimagined World Trade Center memorial:

The names of the dead would be inscribed above ground, not around the pools below, as many of their relatives have demanded. But roaring waterfalls would still cascade into the pools, at the bottom of two enormous voids reflecting the absence of the twin towers.

Am I the only person who thinks the idea of a “void” is both depressing and a total waste of space given property values in New York? I mean, talk about letting the terrorists win: they reduced to towers of modern international capitalism, to, almost literally, nothing. If all of New York were leveled, would we just leave a void? Of course, given how the Bushies have treated New Orleans, perhaps I should realize that the answer to this question is yes.

Anyhow:

I’m not knocking your want to carry that home
Took it with you when you moved and got it broke
Found the pieces, we counted them all alone
Didn’t add up, forgot to carry a zero
***
And you’ve become what you thought was dumb
A fraction of the sum
Yeah you’ve become, yeah you have become
A fraction of the sum, the middle and the front

waiting… waiting… waiting… option #2

June 18, 2006

You wait, you wait
You wait for summer,
Then you wait for rain
You wait, you wait
You wait for darkness
then you wait for day
Yeah, you wait, you wait, you wait

The Wait by Built to Spill

I probably wouldn’t go quite that far

This world’s an ungodly place
Strangled by vines unchaste
So with my shining blade of steel
I would cut a path wide
