My official, unofficial return (or is it my unofficial, official return?)

I’m bored and not busy at work today, so I’m blogging. I haven’t really been doing this recently, but I figured I might as well kill some time here. I notice that I’m averaging about two or three visits per day, which is surprising. My number one search is “I’m doing very well.” What the heck is that??? Number two is “prep curtis sittenfeld.” People just love my posts (1, 2) about that book, I guess. My post about former Congressman Duke Cunningham’s enjoyment of hookers remains my top viewed post by a large margin, followed by my post titled “Naked News,” which was about the death of Berkeley’s (in)famous Naked Guy.

Anyway, just delivered to my office is a very nice, homemade New Years card from one of lawyers for whom I do most of my work. She’s really an interesting artist, and I like the card a lot. I’ve actually been hoping for a homemade card from her for a while (because her art is so cool), but the only other one I’ve ever gotten was a condolence card when my dad died in November. That’s obviously (to me, anyway) not really something I want to display. This one totally is. I mean, you could totally frame the thing.

Anyway, perhaps this is my return to posting. More likely, this is a one-off thing that I did because I was bored and not busy and generally kinda sick today. Whatever, lo que sea, c’est la vie, etc. etc.

Welcome SFGate readers

Well, somebody advertised my blog on a comments page on SFGate.com. So, I’ve gotten seven 10 15 hits today (and possibly counting)… I suppose that should make me want to post here, but really I don’t use this blog anymore. I still see it as a future home to record of my reading list, but I wouldn’t expect any regular posting. Too many other things to do…

If you’ve come here to hate on me because I know that a non-profit lawyer doesn’t make a profit from representing a plaintiff in a lawsuit (I know that’s a crazy and difficult concept for many to grasp): go for it. While I wish my fellow Americans were far less stupid than they are, I willingly admit to deriving some enjoyment from watching the stupidity unfold. As long as your comment isn’t an advertisement or just beyond the pale inappropriate, I won’t delete it.

Addendum: I just read the complaint from the lawsuit people are complaining about–they say it’s a “money grab.” Well, the lawsuit doesn’t even ask for damages. Reactionaries? I think so…

Wellllll, it would seem that I’ve given up on this enterprise altogether. But I think I’d like to at least post periodically, at least randomly when I feel like it. Some commitment, huh? I’ve read a ton this year, and I’ve been using goodreads to document that, but it’s really easier and more fun to do it here. I could always post the same comments I make here on goodreads so other readers can see them…

Well, those links on the side hardly demonstrate my current web-based reading list. Perhaps a general site update is warranted. Thus far, my renewed “commitment” to this blog hasn’t justified it, but we’ll have to wait and see what comes. I do like doing this, but I just don’t always have the wherewithal to actually do it. Plus, I’ve been writing occasionally in a paper journal, which has eliminated some of my desire to write here… C’est la vie, as they say…

In the never-ending battle for the title of Most Narcissistic Alternative Pop Culturalist, query who is the current leader: Tim DeLaughter or Dave Eggers.

Why do I ask? Well, I saw Polyphonic Spree on Halloween and I just finished A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. (Don’t take the link as an endorsement of Amazon as a merchant. Except for their new mp3 downloads, which kick ass, I’m very anti-Amazon as a merchant. However, as a source of information, Amazon rocks.) I enjoyed the P-Spree show until they played their horrible cover of Lithium and then when Tim started talking. Once he started talking, I wanted to throw up he was so obnoxious.

It took me over a year to read “AHWoSG.” I mean, I read quite a bit of other stuff during that time–I had to keep putting AHWoSG down–but, still, it took a year. I don’t mean to hate on the book… there were a lot of things I liked about it. But Mr. Egger’s narcissism cannot seriously be doubted. Actually (and how narcissistic is this?), he repeatedly calls attention to it in the book. It makes me find him interesting and want to vomit all at once. Much how I feel about P-Spree. Was DeLaughter so into himself in the Tripping Daisy days? I certainly don’t remember TD that way…

I’ve been writing a fair amount in a journal, so my need for this is moderated a bit. And I can obviously be more personal in a journal. I’m curious if I will actually re-start posting here. When I first started blogging about two years ago, I figured I’d give it up almost immediately, but I didn’t. So, we’ll see…

Re-Blogging

I think I might be back again. I’ve been wanting to journal it lately, and for some reason the web makes me more inclined to do so. This time, hopefully nobody will actually read this page though. I’m thinking about implementing some PW protection. We will see. Or I’ll totally forget about all this and we won’t see at all.

I’m back, sort of

I’ve decided to start posting again. However, new posting will be on a weekly basis (and maybe very occasionally more). The subject-matter here will remain basically the same (whatever I’m thinking about), but it just won’t come as often.

For today, I post this article about judicial independence suggesting that progressives fight back in the war of words over “judicial activism.” I don’t agree with all of what this article says, but I generally agree with the overall point and strongly agree with the sentiment that Kelo is too passive as opposed to too activist.

I move into my apartment one week from Sunday. Yay!

So, essentially without putting up any new posts, I have unceremoniously passed the 1000 hit mark. Woo hoo. Not nearly as exciting as 500, I think.

Anyway, I am leaving for two Guatemala for two weeks today, so I probably won’t post for two more weeks. Not that my recent posts have been worth reading anyway.

On the job front, I am moving in the right direction, but don’t have a job yet. In any case, it is all pretty much on hold until I get back from Guatemala.
